the moment of truth

there is this show on starworld called the moment of truth. participants are attached to a lie detector machine (polygraph test) while they need to answer 21 increasingly personal questions. if they answer truthfully (as determined by the polygraph test), their chances of getting more money increases. the questions can be as personal as “have you ever cheated on your wife?” with the wife in front, or “have you stuffed your underwear to make you look more endowed?”

i don’t really watch it regularly but it’s an interesting show whenever i catch it. one unforgettable episode was the replay episode i was able to watch yesterday. the participant was rey hernandez from california. he got married at 16 and his mom was against the marriage and his wife. some of the questions were “have you ever resented your mother for the way she treated your wife, have you ever resented your mother for attending your wedding dressed in black, can you ever forgive your parents for not accepting Maria as your wife?”

what made this an unforgettable episode for me was when rey was asked “would you cheat on your wife if you knew you wouldn’t get caught?” and he answered NO. he also added that every sunday, he doesn’t sleep in his house because of his job, he could have kept an affair if he wanted to but he didn’t and he doesn’t because he loves his wife so much. ahhhhhhh! that’s what love is! after everything they’ve gone through, with his parents against his marriage and wife, their love for each other has grown. they’ve settled the differences with his mother and their family is doing well. this is what a family is all about. i admire the man so much for loving his wife deeply and for being committed all through these years.

other episodes are also interesting but from them you will realize how shallow many relationships are that cheating on spouses is just a natural thing for men and women to do. there was this episode when a woman, Lauren, was still in love with her ex-boyfriend on her wedding day. this ex boyfriend, frank, was a guest to ask the question “if i ever wanted to get back together, would you leave your husband?” this question was not answered though because her sister hit the button (this is a one-time option given by any one member of the family) saying “i don’t think anyone would wanna hear that answer.” the next question meanwhile ( asked also by Frank) was “do you belive i’m the man you should be married to?” to which Lauren answered YES. come on, how hurting was that to her husband!

this show also makes me realize that many of us are so pretentious that we don’t reveal the whole truth to our loved ones. i am not without sin but being in a relationship, especially in a marriage, for me is being committed in the true sense of the word. i can go on and on and on about this but then i am not in a relationship right now and i am not married so many people might think who am i to say all these things.

anyhow, i just want to write my thoughts on the show. catch it when you can on star world every wednesdays at 9pm. you just might agree with me.

two persons, two great friends

i could have just written this post with the tv series addict blog, but i chose not to because i just want one separate blog as a tribute to these two persons. i've just proven that people who have met through the internet or phone and haven't met even once in person can be friends, really good friends. some time ago, i joined this investigative/guessing thingy sponsored by the philippine daily inquirer on the net. they had this situation where members guess what's going to happen next or who is the person involved and kinda solve it. they even had chatrooms for members. from this room, i met two persons, nath who is from davao and ??? (god, i can't remember his name. i remember he works at the ateneo de manila university). we exchanged cellphone numbers in the chatroom and there started our friendship. i lost communication with the one whose name i can't remember but nath and i never lost communication, either through text messages or friendster messages. there is ...

happy new year

happy new year!!! i’ve been meaning to post since before the new year. however, there was so much traffic in accessing the internet maybe because of the many people who update their profiles and/or send their holiday greetings. plus, i had to delete many spam comments in my friendster blog site. i don’t really understand why they are there and they just keep on piling everyday. anyway, because it’s a new year, i will have a new year’s resolution. this is the 2nd year of posting my new year’s resolution. just read on my previous posts because i have mentioned this quite a few times and i even evaluated myself if i was true to the promise, hehehe. and i plan to continue doing it even if 2008 has passed. so for this year, i resolve to save. i have been working for almost 9 years now and i haven’t saved any penny. i have a bank account and all but there’s really nothing in it. i resolve to start doing this this year because i just thought that i am not getting any younger and i am n...
