i am currently watching the movie "everybody wants to be italian." it stars this cute guy, jay jablonski, who has been in love with his ex-fiancee for 8 years now even if she is already married and has 3 kids. then, with the prodding of his friends, he met marissa. she was instantly attracted to him but he, being in love with his ex, wasn't. they hung out as friends anyway. marissa was hoping that it will improve with time. they were really good together. they wanted the same things and all and they had fun with each other. it was, actually...when his ex came back to him. marissa was hurt that she went to italy. jake followed her and she was with this guy, michael...and you know what happens next. well, i don't know, it's still on. i am writing about it because i just realized by watching this movie that whenever you want something so bad, just because you can't have it, when you finally get it, you realize that having it is not as how you imagined it to be ...

this is the new 'i love you' as i watched avatar on 3d with mae and joel today. while i was watching the movie, i realized that it is very related to intercultural communication, one of the classes i am taking this semester. we have always wondered why wars happen, why contact among cultures lead to violence, etc. the movie clearly answered the question. in order to understand better the lives of avatars, jake sully lived with them, learned their language and their ways, how they see themselves and the others, at least within the omaticaya clan. this made him understand them better. he found out that they are one with the earth and that they feel a certain connection with their environment so that "the destruction of the Hometree could affect the bio-botanical neural network that all Pandoran organisms are connected to." this is how we should do it. to better understand the people of other cultures, we have to respect their beliefs. however strange they may seem to us...

t here are only a few days left for january, just a week actually. this means that i am halfway through my flta stint at skyline. i have been enjoying my stay here. however, i am counting the days until i go back home - only 147 days to go. things have been great so far. people at work are kind enough. i got A's for the two classes i took last semester. i hope i get the same grades for my two classes this semester. this spring semester will be a hella semester. i am taking two classes, TA-ing for two filipino classes plus lisa's english 100 class and pcn. there will be weekend rehearsals for 'the state of the art.' family and friends have been really great, too. joel and mae are literally god-sent. they've been really good to and for me. just a while ago, mae and i were chillin' here at the family room after a session with her 'pendulum.' i started reading through my friendster blogs and i was just laughing and grinning about my posts. i can't believ...
