friday and 1000 awesome things

wow, it's friday! it's not as if i have a weekend. my schedule is cramped with rehearsals so what weekend am i talking about? anyhow, rehearsals have been productive. it's picking up, we can do this in 6 days, 4 hours, 19 minutes and 11 seconds. i was looking at the 1000 awesome things and i realized that most of these awesome things are just simple things. i thought i should start listing down my 1000 awesome things as well. and i am commencing right now. 1000 - long conversation with a friend that you really need to feel good 999 - when a student tells you that s/he understands it better now because of how you taught it 998 - when a student tells you not to go back home to the Philippines because s/he needs you 997 - when a friend shows you her/his support by watching your show yan na muna.

thursday

i didn't have time to write a blog yesterday because i was busy. wednesday was fine. today has been good so far. good people. good music. i will be in pcn rehearsals until 10pm today.

new day

tuesday. the sun came out for a bit as i woke up. and now it's starting to get gloomy again for the rain. it's a new day. i resolve to be happy and have fun. today will be a better day than yesterday. i can do this.

fail

monday. long one as i will stay for pcn rehearsals. plans failed. things didn't turn out the way i planned them to be. and i am nervous about something. and it's going to rain tomorrow and wednesday and who knows until when. and it's only monday.

crunch time

well, two weeks, i mean, less than two weeks before pcn. for the next days before the preview night on april 29, there will be day and night-long rehearsals. i just hope that everybody will keep their cool and we'll have a good show. no, great show. this week has its ups and downs. done with my oral presentation for the speech class. good. good grade for my second paper. good. talk of dr. angeles arrien. good. good classes. good. i don't want to dwell on the down part. that's about it for now. weekend will go by fast...before you know it, it will be show time. let's do this!

anyway by dr. kent keith

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway. If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway. The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway. People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway. People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. Help people anyway. Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway. http://www.paradoxicalcommandments.com/

light at the end of the tunnel

facebook status: stressed i wasn't feeling well since last night, physically and emotionally. and then i had to attend this talk by cultural anthropologist, angeles arrien, for extra credit for my speech class. i am glad i did because the talk just lifted up my spirits. in the hope of creating some ripple effect, i will write here what i learned from the talk. everything after this will be dr. arrien's words, not mine... there are four universal principles which include the ways of the warrior/leader, healer/caretaker, visionary/creator, teacher/counselor. the way of the warrior/leader is to show up, or choose to be present. there are 3 universal powers: power of presence, communication and willingness to take a stand. these three powers are aligned with our commitment and personal responsibility. to be a warrior/leader, we have to convince with our presence and the quality of our personhood is sometimes manifested through nonverbal behaviors. about this

i was just chillin' and i found the friendster blog on the tribune tower that i was talking about in my blog hours ago. apparently, i wrote it on my birthday 3 years ago, hahaha. and i've seen the tribune tower last week as evidenced by this photo. here goes the friendster blog... something i learned from watching csi November 29th, 2007 the tribune tower near the michigan avenue bridge in chicago has over 136 stones from all landmarks etched on the walls of its ground level. one of these stones is from our very own corregidor island! it is specifically located on top of the stone (maybe a deposit of sediment) from santa maria island-azores in the atlantic ocean. other stones on this wall came from the alamo, a former mission and fortress compound, now a museum, located in san antonio, texas; the redwood forest in northern california; and the hagia sophia, a former patriarchal basilica, later a mosque, now a museum, in istanbul, turkey. how great is that! all these things i lea...

back to reality

today is the last day of my spring break. sad but true. sucks but time to face reality once again. i can say i had a good break. spending time with my high school friend christian, experiencing chicago...i can't believe that we got to see the tribune tower together. i asked him to go there and take pictures for me years ago and on sunday, we got to see it together with all stones from the philippines. i also spent time with my former colleagues in pac - inay ludet and kuya glen. can't believe we got to meet in new jersey of all places. we also went around new york together. we didn't have enough time to see some places though but it was good enough. well, time to start being nervous for my oral presentation tomorrow in my speech class. hahaha:)

chicago

san francisco. denver. chicago. straight to this. 4 magalenyos meeting in illinois. lawen mu nga naman ne? northwestern university. sears tower. chicago deep dish pizza at pizzeria uno. magnificent mile. john hancock observatory. chicago tribune tower. millenium park. the bean. buckingham fountain. navy pier. train and lots of WALKING!

friends and strangers

it is a rainy day today. my knee still hurts, it's actually purple right now. what's ironic is that today has been a good day. i had an easy test in my esol class. i turned in my paper 2 for my speech class. (i may not have been that happy about it but i think it's good enough.) i was able to see the people i wanted to see before the spring break. one told me her life is enriched because i am in her life. one friend was so concerned about my bad knee. to cap the day off, a stranger i met at the school's bus stop offered me a ride home. well, i took it because i had to go to serramonte anyway. life is good. people are so nice. i received a lot of hugs today. and i am excited for my spring break trips.
